About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Bibliotecas. Anales de Investigación (BAI) is a scientific journal managed by the José Martí National Library of Cuba. It is an open access journal and does not charge any fees (APC).
Journal Objective:
BAI constitutes the editorial forum for scientific and academic exchange among information professionals in Cuba, with objectives oriented toward teaching, research, and professional practice. Its primary objective is to disseminate the most recent contributions to Information Sciences and their interdisciplinary applicability from both the Cuban and international contexts.
Specific Objectives
1. To disseminate the scientific work of the Cuban and international Public Library System based on the results of their research or other scientific experience related to any information system (school libraries, specialized libraries, university libraries, research and learning resource centers, publishing houses related to the book industry, bibliology, etc.).
2. To reflect on theoretical, practical, and academic elements of the library profession and of information professionals in general, from a professional and scientific perspective.
3. To disseminate experiences from the work of Cuban public libraries or other national or international information centers.
The journal's intended audience:
The journal is aimed at students, professors, researchers, and professionals, in general, in the information field; as well as readers or other interested parties from related or unrelated disciplines.
The journal accepts papers related to Information Sciences and its constituent disciplines (Bibliology, Library Science, Bibliography, Archival Science, Museology, Information Science); as well as those that reflect the impact of communication, research methodology, history, and new technologies on the development of the aforementioned disciplines, or their interrelation with other branches of knowledge.
Contributions are accepted in the form of articles reflecting the results of scientific research, a development project, or the application of cutting-edge experiences. These articles include opinions on a specific document, bibliographic reviews, biographies of prominent figures in the information world, descriptions of promotional activities, diagnostic studies, proposals for new services, and others.
Previously published works are not accepted unless specifically requested by the Editorial Board.
Authors are responsible for the ideas expressed in their works.
Format: Print and digital
Language: The content of the articles is published primarily in Spanish, with abstracts and keywords in English. Articles in Portuguese and English are also accepted.
Licensing Type: Open Access Journal
Frequency: It is published continuously, every four months, with its final publication in three periods: January-April, May-August, and September-December.
Sections: The journal's sections are: Editorial, Original Articles, Review Articles, Bibliometric Studies, and another section is Reviews and Experiences for Dissemination, identified as short communications.
Peer Review Process
The journal is refereed by experts outside the editorial board, whose purpose is to evaluate the articles approved during the initial technical review process. The evaluation method used is double-blind peer review. The journal assigns two reviewers to each manuscript, or more if deemed necessary. Once the reviewer issues their opinion, the results are sent to the editor, who is responsible for providing final approval and communicating with the author(s). Manuscript confidentiality is strictly maintained by both authors and reviewers throughout the evaluation process, so no one other than the editor should be aware of it. Open Access Policy This journal provides immediate open access to its content, based on the principle that offering the public free access to research contributes to a greater global exchange of knowledge. Sources of support Ministry of Culture Journal history Libraries Anales de Investigación (Anals of Research) was founded in 1963, Volume 1, Number 1, January-February, as the official publication of the General Directorate of Libraries of the National Council of Culture. It is currently the oldest library science and information journal in Cuba and Latin America. Although the journal's focus is on library science, Bibliotecas has published topics related to archival science, bibliography, and information science. Throughout its long history, the journal has published more than 500 articles. Its publication frequency has varied: bimonthly from 1963 to 1978, semiannually from 1979 to 1989, annually from 1992 to 2015, and semiannually from 2016 onward. It is currently quarterly, with its closing months being April, August, and December. Currently, as a scientific publication, the studies represent vivid experiences of library work with contributions to library science. Despite its frequent changes, it has always been and will always be the publication that every librarian should consult.
