Objective: Archival training, as a fundamental link between the discipline and human capital, has become essential for the management, preservation, and access to information. It has undergone a significant transformation in recent years in the teaching-learning processes, driven by the advancement of digital technologies and the new demands of the labor market. Methodology: To analyze the current state of training and updating of archival professionals in Panama by identifying the gaps between formal higher education and the demands of the sector. Deductive analytical and techniques related to surveys, observation, and specialized interviews were used. New: This study explores the training and updating of archival professionals in Panama. It focuses on how to improve their profile to adapt to the growing demands of the labor market. Using a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals in the field and competent experts to identify the most valued competencies and the barriers that archivists face in their professional development. Results and Discussion: The results show that, while basic training is adequate, there is a growing need for ongoing advanced training in technological tools and digital records management. The study concludes that it is imperative to update academic training programs at the advanced level and create professional development opportunities that respond to the demands of the modern work environment, ensuring the positioning and competitiveness of Panamanian archivists in the near future. Conclusions: The training and development of archival professionals in Panama is a critical issue that is constantly evolving, driven by technological changes and labor market demands. The research reveals that the majority of professionals are young and that there is a high representation of women, indicating a new generation of archivists seeking to integrate and excel in the field. However, the lack of skills in the use of digital tools and research techniques highlights the urgent need to adapt undergraduate educational programs to current demands. Contribution: This study has highlighted the importance of comprehensive training that includes theoretical aspects and prioritizes practice and mastery of relevant technologies as part of the teaching-learning process
