Artificial Intelligence in process approaches

Authors

Abstract

The publication of this special issue in 2025 coincides with a historical turning point. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being disruptively integrated into the core of knowledge creation, management, and dissemination. This special issue is conceived as a critical mapping of this integration, exploring various facets among the many that are emerging in current developments.

Given the current context, it is imperative that institutions adopt management approaches and processes that align with their organizational objectives. Process management, an integrative tool, drives excellence within organizations and adds value to each step of the process, leading to sound decision-making (Vargas et al., 2019). The continuous implementation of process management offers numerous advantages, including compliance with international standards, such as those stipulated by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which makes institutions competent, strategic, and responsible organizations (Domínguez, 2024; Monferdini et al.). (2025).

Taken together, this special issue does not uncritically celebrate AI, but rather questions it and situates it within a framework of fundamental human values.

The articles gathered here argue that the future of the knowledge ecosystem will be shaped by collective intelligence, ethical deliberation, and the conscious action of communities committed to a more just, inclusive, and profoundly human future.

We thank all the authors, reviewers, and editors for their invaluable contribution to this essential dialogue.
