Abstract

The meanings of the public library as a cultural practice in the context of the region of Sancti Spiritus, from a longitudinal inquiry into the relationship of the library and the context, identifying the social uses and practices of cultural consumption and characterization of popular culture. The qualitative methodology guided the research work on the basis of information obtained through biographical method, enriched the life stories, drawn from depth interviews and group discussions. Research provides new insights into the relationship public library-culture in the light of a perspective rarely used in librarian science studies, which promotes comprehension attributed by subjects to their everyday consumption practices of cultural significance.
