Reflections on readers; born or created?

Abstract

This article analyses the causes of the reading crisis and proposes appropriate strategies to carry out successfully the work of librarians/teachers in the fostering of reading habits. For this it is necessary to differentiate the role of instructional texts, informative texts and amusing readings in the development of homework that promotes the teacher as mediator in the student’s relationship with literature. This mediation must be committed by an activity of effective reading instruction which promotes the reading character as work technique that results in the promotion of reading vocation.
