Users and research demands in a search strategy development service: case study in a university library

Objective: To characterize the profile of users and the research projects supported by the search strategy development service of the Araranguá Campus Library, to optimize the service. Design/Methodology/Approach: This work is classified as documentary research with a quantitative nature and seeks to identify the profile of the users and the research projects served at the Sectoral Library of the Araranguá Campus of UFSC, based on the analysis of services provided in 2023 and 2024. Results/Discussion: 87% of the consultations were conducted in person, and most were aimed at undergraduate students (55%). the most used databases for research were scopus, pubmed, and web of science. physiotherapy was the program with the highest number of users served, and the most researched topic was health, especially related to older adults. Conclusions: Understanding the profile of users and research is fundamental to improving service, identifying search patterns, and anticipating research needs, thereby allowing the development of faster and more effective search strategies. Originality/Value: It presents an innovative character, as it is the first study of its kind conducted in the library in question and can guide other libraries that provide this type of service to implement it in their units and gain a greater understanding of the users and research that orbit around them. Provides a methodological model with network analysis, applicable to the evaluation of specialized reference services in other academic libraries
