Abstract

Objective: This thoughtful article analyzes the transformative role of artificial intelligence (AI) in designing, implementing, and utilizing digital libraries. Methodology: Based on an analysis of specialized literature and contemporary experiences across various contexts, it addresses how AI redefines library practices concerning information access, heritage preservation, sustainability, and data ethics. Results and Discussion: It is argued that, far from being a mere technical tool, AI necessitates an epistemological and cultural reconfiguration of libraries as institutions that mediate knowledge. Conclusions: This paper invites critical reflection on the challenges and opportunities for its responsible, equitable, and sustainable incorporation. Contribution: If libraries manage to integrate AI from an inclusive and thoughtful perspective, they will not only survive the digital transformation, but will emerge stronger as key cultural icons in a complex and ever-changing information ecosystem.
