Proposal of information literacy standards with AI for the Bachelor of Science in Information

Abstract

Objective: To determine information literacy (IL) standards integrating artificial intelligence (AI) for students of the Bachelor's Degree in Information Science. Methodology: Descriptive research with a mixed approach. The documentary analysis method was applied to 183 sources (out of 1247 retrieved from Scopus and Web of Science), supplemented by Google Scholar. IL standards (ACRL), professional competencies (ANECA), and literature on AI in education were analyzed. A proposal of 5 standards was developed and validated via a Likert-scale questionnaire by 22 Information Science specialists. Results y Discussion: Five IL standards with integrated AI were defined, each with specific competencies and recommended AI tools. Expert validation showed 95% agreement as "very adequate" and 5% as "adequate". Conclusions: The integration of AI enhances the development of essential information competencies for future information professionals. Seven key groups of AI tools for IL in this discipline were identified: writing assistance, search and retrieval, data analysis, knowledge management, visualization, translation, and credibility assessment. Contributions: The proposed standards serve as a guide to integrate these practices into the curriculum, emphasizing that AI is a complement that requires critical thinking and an ethical commitment from the user
